He intended to take a powder keg and a torch to help the soldiers escape during a massive zombie battle in Leipzig.
However, Jacob only then realizes that the powder keg has a miscalculated fuse length, and he eventually makes up his mind to sacrifice himself.
Tucking the fuse-less powder keg, which is as large as his own torso, under his right arm and holding a torch in his left hand, he begins to walk toward the iron gate.

This task might look simple to others on the outside, but for the person facing it, it is a moment of no small weight, where fear reaches its peak.
Having walked past the iron gate, Jacob sets the powder keg down right in front of the gate and prepares to ignite it with the torch to blow it up immediately.
If this powder keg explodes, Jacob will die instantly on the spot, sacrificing himself heroically.
