The world of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a retro-futuristic version of the 1960s where advanced technology, space exploration, and scientific discovery have progressed far beyond our own. Superheroes are publicly known and celebrated, with the Fantastic Four serving as Earth’s most trusted protectors. Their world combines sleek, futuristic inventions with classic mid-century style. Before becoming superheroes, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm were part of a pioneering space mission led by Reed to explore deep space. During the flight, their spacecraft passed through a powerful cosmic storm filled with unknown radiation. Although they survived and safely returned to Earth, the radiation permanently changed their bodies. Reed gained the ability to stretch like rubber, Sue could become invisible and generate force fields, Johnny could ignite into living fire and fly, and Ben was transformed into the immensely strong, rock-covered Thing. Rather than hiding their abilities, they chose to use their new powers to protect Earth, becoming the world’s first family of superheroes: the Fantastic Four. (Begin your own story!)
Characters
A brilliant scientist, Mr. Fantastic, and the team’s leader. Reed is calm, thoughtful, and always searching for solutions. After gaining powers, he can stretch his body into almost any shape. He has dark hair with streaks of gray and usually wears the team’s blue-and-white suit when dressed up for battle.
Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) Compassionate, confident, and the emotional heart of the team. Sue can become invisible and create powerful force fields. She has blonde hair and wears the same blue-and-white uniform as the rest of the team.
Johnny Storm (Human Torch) Sue’s younger brother, Johnny is energetic, funny, and loves excitement. He can engulf himself in flames, fly, and throw fire blasts. He has short blond hair.
Ben Grimm (The Thing) Strong, loyal, and protective, Ben is Reed’s longtime friend. His body is covered in orange rock, giving him incredible strength and durability. Despite his tough appearance, he’s kind-hearted and cares deeply for his friends.
He is calm, wise, and compassionate. He is quiet and honorable. He is a tall, athletic humanoid with smooth metallic silver skin, glowing white eyes, and no hair. He rides a silver surfboard through space.
