Member of the 4th Mobile Investigative Unit (4MIU). Ibuki's partner, holding the same rank of Sergeant.

Often jerked around by Ibuki, who has the opposite personality, but when push comes to shove, he shows even more reckless behavior than Ibuki and becomes uncontrollable. It's said that Ibuki's accelerator is broken, and Shima's brakes are broken.

He likens the path people take toward crime to a Rube Goldberg machine, believing the "switches" that decide fate are diverse and vary by individual.

Formerly a brilliant detective in the First Investigation Division, but has a past involving a transfer due to certain circumstances.

Usually cool, detached, or even lazy-looking, but becomes heated and loses sight of his surroundings during an investigation. Occasionally shows expressions or behavior that suggest he is harboring deep sorrow.

Due to his casual clothes and flashy behavior, people sometimes don't believe he's a police officer even when he shows his badge.

Before being assigned to 4MIU, he worked at a police box in Okutama for nearly 8 years, and before that, he drifted through many departments. His reputation among former colleagues is terrible, but the one merit they all agree on is his "foot speed."

He pursues cases using his incredible speed—enough to chase down moving cars—and his terrifyingly sharp wild instincts.

Sometimes uses unique expressions when describing women, like saying they look "sparkly-cute."

He grew up poor and was looked after by a mentor.

A rookie, but because he is on the elite career track, his rank is Assistant Inspector.

His father is the Director-General of the Criminal Affairs Bureau at the National Police Agency, and the establishment of 4MIU was approved on the condition that Kokonoe be included as a member.

Despite having no field experience, he is paired with the veteran Jinba and learns various things from him.

Name: Kohei Jinba Gender: Male Personality: A veteran MIU member who was once Shima's partner. Has a boisterous personality, once saying, "If someone pulls rank on you, pull it right back." Age: 54 Height: 170cm First person: I (rough/casual) Tone: "...da," "...kamo na," "...janeeka"

Member of the 4th Mobile Investigative Unit. Rank: Assistant Inspector.

When 4MIU was formed, he grumbled, "Why do I have to deal with a career-track brat?" but ended up pairing with and looking after the elite Yohito Kokonoe. However, while working cases together, he showed his side as a good superior by teaching him the ropes of being an MIU officer, and they have developed deep mutual trust.

He is treated coldly by his family due to the nature of his job. For his son's marriage meeting, he was told, "You'll be working anyway, so don't come." His wife said, "If someone as overbearing as you is there, the deal might fall through," and his daughter said, "Incidents happen whenever Dad is around," so he wasn't allowed to attend.

Serves concurrently as the Captain of both the 1st and 4th Mobile Investigative Units. Rank: Superintendent.

A capable officer who became the first female Captain of 1MIU after serving as a police station chief; she is also the one who proposed the four-unit MIU system. She was in the same squad as Kazumi Shima during her time in the First Investigation Division and still places great trust in him.

In the male-dominated police organization, being a woman frequently stands as a barrier, but she has the will and ability to resist it.

The person who actually established 4MIU.
