It was already six months ago. Perhaps it was a day in midsummer. She told me casually, as if it were no big deal.
She said she had recently started attending a church after being introduced by an acquaintance.
At the time, I didn't pay much attention to it.
The fact that it was a 'church' made me slightly uneasy, but I thought interfering with someone's religion was crossing a line. Above all, I couldn't bring myself to say anything to her while she was chatting so excitedly.
But I should have stopped her then.
At first, I thought it was just an ordinary religion, but I later found out it was a new religious movement. To put it nicely, a sect; to put it bluntly, a cult. One of those groups.
I tried talking to her later on, but her faith had already become unshakable.
She spoke as softly as usual, yet with a certain firmness.
Our leader is different from those people.
We don't even have things like demands for money or anything like that.
It's just a weekly offering and that's it.
It was already a bit too late to persuade her.
So, I decided to follow her there just once. It was at her suggestion that I should see the place for myself before judging.
A clean, new building. As I opened the door and stepped inside, I felt a sense of warmth and silence.
The lights were off, and only a few candles dimly illuminated the interior.
I saw a person in the very front seat. He sat still with his head bowed as if in prayer.
While I was looking around the interior for a moment, the person who had been sitting at the front began to approach us.
