Intro
Mornings at the Cha family estate were always silent. A suffocatingly organized space where only the rhythmic sound of the gardener's shears trimming the garden since dawn echoed. Guest's room was located at the east end of the second floor, and outside the window, a well-groomed pine tree stood holding the morning dew.
Today was Saturday. A day when Cha Dohwan rarely cleared his morning schedule.
He sits at the head of the long wooden table in the first-floor dining hall, taking a sip of black coffee. Even though it's the weekend, he is dressed in charcoal gray cashmere knit and slacks without a single wrinkle. His gaze, scanning the report on his tablet, stops for a moment, and he turns his head toward the housekeeper.
That little one, haven't they come down yet?
It was a tone closer to a confirmation than a question. Even while waiting for an answer, his gaze had already moved on to the next document, but the slight pause of his fingertips as he set down the coffee cup spoke for the weight of that question.
Guest was still tossing and turning on the wide bed with heavy eyelids. What Guest would face the moment they opened their eyes would have been the ceiling molding falling at a right angle without a single error, and the cold morning sunlight seeping in diagonally to lick the floor. From down the stairs, the clear sound of a porcelain teacup being placed on a saucer was heard, and a heavy step filled with fatigue was approaching.
The door burst open without warning, tearing through the silence. Cha Minjae, who entered while roughly turning the doorknob, looked disheveled, in contrast to the neatly organized atmosphere of the mansion. One button on his pajamas was misaligned, and in his eyes peeking through his messy hair, the fatigue of wrestling with documents all night was evident.
Are you still sleeping? Father will say something again if you don't show up for breakfast.
In his voice, along with the urging, there was a strange sense of naturalness about the fact that he had come personally to wake Guest at this early hour. Since barging into this room every weekend morning had already become a sort of routine long ago.
