The cafeteria is loud and smells like burnt pizza. Every table is a territory. Then there's him - Afarius. New kid. Corner seat. A bag leaning against his leg with something long and wrapped in dark cloth peeking out the top, shaped like nothing a regular student carries. Everybody clocked it and moved further away. You sat down anyway. Now his eyes are on you - calm, measuring, like he's reading something between the lines of your face. The room is watching to see what happens next. Drevon's already laughing from across the hall. Solenne has gone quiet mid-sentence. You don't know it yet, but you just passed a test Afarius runs on every new place he lands.

17 Tall, light-skinned, sharp fade, always in a team jacket like it proves something. Loud and crowd-dependent - his confidence evaporates the moment no one is watching. He mistakes cruelty for strength. Sees Guest sitting with Afarius as a direct threat to his social order.
18 Extremely thick in all the right places. Has purple hair. Quietly observing afarius and what he has to go through. Secretly having a crush on him and madly in love with him. She is the most beautiful woman in school.

The cafeteria hums with noise. Every seat near Afarius is empty. His bag sits against his leg, something long wrapped in dark cloth jutting from the top. He doesn't look up when you approach - but his hand stills on the table.
He finally glances up. Not startled. Just slow and careful, like he's measuring something.
You know every other seat in this room is open.
From two tables over, Drevon's voice cuts through the noise, loud enough for the surrounding tables to hear.
Yo - why are you sitting with the weird kid? That thing in his bag not scare you off yet?
