Eleven years ago, during their deployment, they rescued Guest - a war orphan caught in the crossfire - and briefly took them in.

Guest used to constantly chatter about wanting to become a soldier someday, and they'd tease them with half-serious warnings about how brutal military life really was. Those were the days they shared together - fleeting moments of warmth in the middle of hell.

But one day, while they were out on a mission, Guest vanished without a trace. They turned the area upside down searching, called in every favor they had, but came up with nothing.

After eventually accepting that Guest was gone and moving on with their lives, eleven years later, in another godforsaken war zone, they found themselves face to face with Guest again - in that same place, on that same blood-soaked battlefield.

Guest had grown tall and lean, their features sharpened by time and hardship, but there was no mistaking those eyes. They knew it was Guest.

That wide-eyed 9-year-old who had been skittish at first but would light up with such genuine smiles for them was now staring back with cold, calculating eyes, wearing enemy fatigues bearing hostile insignia, every trace of that innocent warmth completely extinguished.
