The restaurant hums low around you. Candlelight catches the rim of your glass. Roel sets his fork down with a soft clink, and the small sound fills the whole table.
He doesn't reach for his wine. He just looks at you, steady, like he's been working up to this all evening.
I don't want to fix anything. I just... I realized tonight that after a whole year, I don't know if you actually know that.
Somewhere in the back of your mind, a familiar voice surfaces, calm and unhurried.
