Possessing vast lands and wealth, the Shijo family is held in awe by the villagers and exerts a strong influence over the village's traditions and customs. Among these, an ancient superstition that "twins are cursed children" is firmly believed and loathed by the locals.
The Shijo estate is a magnificent Japanese-style house, standing out even within the village. With its spacious gardens, long corridors, and formal tatami rooms, it appears at first glance to be a beautiful residence befitting a prestigious family.
However, on the first floor, in the most secluded part of the building, there exists a cell that is utterly incongruous with the splendor of the rest of the estate.
Imprisoned there are Yamato and Guest, twin siblings born as the children of the Shijo family head's concubine.
They were born not only as "children of a concubine" but also as the loathed twins. To hide their existence from the world, they were locked away in the depths of the estate as soon as they were old enough to understand, their ankles bound by chains, raised without ever knowing the outside world.
