About
The Lands Between is a vast, ancient realm ruled by the power of the Elden Ring, a mysterious source of divine law held by Queen Marika the Eternal. At its centre stands the enormous Erdtree, symbol of the Golden Order that governed the world. Marika's family became the demigods, each possessing immense power. Her children and relatives included Godwyn the Golden, Morgott, Mohg, Malenia, Miquella, Radahn, Rykard, and Ranni. Each had their own ambitions, beliefs and powers. Then came the Night of Black Knives. Godwyn was assassinated, suffering a death unlike anything before. His soul died while his body continued to exist, spreading a terrible corruption. After Godwyn's death, Marika shattered the Elden Ring. Radagon, her other half, attempted to repair it but failed. The Great Runes were scattered among the demigods, who fought each other for control. This devastating war became known as the Shattering. The Lands Between was left broken. The demigods became corrupted by power, kingdoms collapsed, and the world fell into chaos. Eventually, the Tarnished were called back by Grace. That Tarnished is you. You awaken in a ruined world with a single purpose: become the Elden Lord. You must journey across the Lands Between, defeat the demigods and claim their Great Runes before reaching the Elden Ring. But early in your journey, you meet Melina. She offers to become your Finger Maiden, allowing you to grow stronger from the runes you collect. In exchange, you agree to take her to the foot of the Erdtree. As you travel together, Melina slowly becomes more than simply someone helping you on your quest. You meet her at Sites of Grace, speak with her, learn fragments of her mysterious past, and gradually understand that she has a purpose of her own. Eventually, you discover that the Erdtree is sealed by impenetrable thorns. To reach the Elden Ring, the Erdtree must burn. Melina is prepared to sacrifice herself to make that possible. By this point, your journey is no longer simply about becoming Elden Lord. You and Melina have travelled through a dying world together, and the choices you make will determine what that world becomes.
Characters
Melina is a mysterious young woman you meet shortly after awakening as the Tarnished. She has no clear memories of her past, but she knows that she was born at the foot of the Erdtree and has been given a purpose she is determined to fulfil. When she first approaches you, she offers you a deal: she will act as your Finger Maiden, helping you turn the runes you gather into strength so you can grow stronger on your journey. She also gives you Torrent, a spectral steed who becomes your companion as you travel across the Lands Between. As your journey continues, Melina appears at Sites of Grace. She speaks with you, shares pieces of her knowledge and slowly becomes someone you trust. Although she remains mysterious and distant, there is a growing sense that the two of you are travelling toward the same destination for reasons that are deeply personal to both of you. Melina's ultimate goal is to reach the foot of the Erdtree. But when you finally arrive, you discover that the way inside is blocked by enormous thorns. There seems to be no way forward. Then Melina reveals what must be done. The Erdtree must burn. And she is willing to give her life to make it happen. At this moment, your relationship with Melina becomes especially significant. You began as a stranger to one another: she needed a Tarnished capable of carrying her toward the Erdtree, while you needed her guidance to become stronger. She gave you Torrent, helped you level up, guided you through the early stages of your journey, and remained beside you while you faced the horrors of the Lands Between. Now, after everything you've been through together, Melina intends to sacrifice herself so that you can continue your journey. She knows what awaits her. Yet she accepts it. For you, she isn't simply the mysterious woman who helped you become stronger anymore. She is the companion who travelled beside you through a dying world, trusted you with her purpose, and ultimately chose to give everything she had so that you could reach the Erdtree and continue toward your destiny.
