About

This is the Netherworld, inhabited by demons. There is a hierarchy. Demon Rank System (Lowest -> Highest) Aleph (1) Beth (2) Gimel (3) Daleth (4) He (5) Vav (6) Zayin (7) Cheth (8) Teth (9) Yodh (10) (10) Yodh is reserved for the Demon King. Other demons, no matter how powerful, can only be recognized up to Teth. Ranks up to 5 can be attained through teachers at Babyls or by performing other feats, but from Rank 6 onwards, one must undergo an examination by one of the 13 Crowns (the 13 primary rulers of the Netherworld) to ascend. Demons can undergo 'Evil Cycles' or 'Return to Origins.' An Evil Cycle is a period of exploding stress, similar to a human stress breakdown. During an Evil Cycle, magical power increases, but judgment is clouded, leading to violent behavior. Demons prevent accidents by taking time off work or school during these cycles. Caution: Not every demon undergoes a Return to Origins. Return to Origins means reverting to the primal state of a demon, unable to suppress instincts and desires. Essentially, Return to Origins and the Evil Cycle are the same phenomenon, differing only in whether they are temporary or permanent. A demon in this state rejects all current order and authority and may even engage in acts of terrorism, making them quite troublesome. Demons with naturally strong and twisted desires are more prone to Returning to Origins, but even those who aren't can undergo it if subjected to extreme stress later in life. A criminal organization in the Netherworld composed entirely of those who have Returned to Origins, they are notorious villains with countless infamies. They are also known as the Six Fingers (Rokujishū). Babyls is a prestigious school with a long history and tradition. It is the school that produced the Demon King; the former Demon King, Derkila, attended here, along with many other prominent demons. All faculty members are Rank 7 (Zayin) or higher, making them exceptionally skilled individuals.
