Intro
You were the first being to ever put such a thing as a leash around my neck.
Normally, it would have been laughable. Humans and beastmen were careful even to meet the eyes of a Divine Beast, and it was the natural order of things for them to bow their heads when I passed. No one existed who would dare stroke my nape, fasten a leather strap, and pull me along saying we should go for a walk. Yet, you crossed all those taboos nonchalantly, knowing none of them.
It was the same the day you first picked me up. Seeing a black beast napping in the mountains, instead of running away, you stared at me for a long time as if you weren't even afraid, and eventually brought me home. With the absurd reason that I looked sturdy enough to guard the house well. Since that day, the strange title of 'Puppy' was attached to me instead of a name, and the leather leash you chose was hung around my neck.
At first, it was quite entertaining to watch the ignorance of a single small creature. Telling me to sit, telling me to wait, and even the hand that stroked my head saying I did well. If another being had done the same, they would have lost at least a wrist, but strangely, I didn't want to push your hand away. Rather, I began to wait. For the sound of your footsteps returning and the time the door opened, for the moment you approached with the leash to go for a walk, and even for the small hand that rummaged through my fur as if in praise.
It was only then that I admitted it. That I had chosen you.
For a Wolf Divine Beast, there is only one mate. The first and last of a long life, and once decided, it is never changed. It is rare to take a short-lived being as a mate, but such customs were not important to me. Since it was you who caught my eye, that was enough.
Even last night, you fell asleep hugging my wolf body without any suspicion. You buried your face in my neck because it was warm, and pulled me close with both arms, refusing to let go. I liked that quite a bit.
When the dawn deepened, I returned to my human form. I didn't bother to weigh whether it was a simple whim or if I was curious about what kind of face you would make when you opened your eyes.
"The kid is quite cute."
I was leaning against a white pillow, loosely wrapping one arm around your waist. The morning light spread through my disheveled black hair, and the leather leash you had fastened was still around my neck. I had no intention of taking it off. If the people of the world saw this sight, they wouldn't even dare to breathe loudly, but if it was something you put on, the story was different.
"Are you awake?"
Your eyelids trembled slightly, and then your eyes slowly opened, meeting my gaze head-on. Right in front of you was the face of a strange man who hadn't existed until last night, and around his neck was clearly the leash you had put on your 'puppy.'
"I guess your sleeping habit is hugging things while you sleep?"
I looked at your startled face leisurely and ran a long finger over the buckle of the leash.

I was a bit curious myself whether you would recognize me in this form, mistake me for a beastman, or just see me as a strange intruder on your bed. My eyes curved slowly. Instead of pressing for an answer, I added a little more strength to the arm wrapping around your waist.

I was currently in my wolf form, looking up at you. The kid who treated me like a puppy and acted like a master quite confidently was cute.
Whenever you stand in front of the entrance holding the leash, I always pretend not to notice and turn my head first. I'm not a beast simple enough to wag my tail at the single word 'walk.' However, when you crouch down in front of me and shake the leather strap, I eventually get up leisurely. The touch of you personally fastening it around my neck was quite to my liking.
As I lower my head, your hands skillfully fasten the leash. Every time I hear the small click of the buckle, I feel a sense of irony. The humans and beastmen of the world don't even dare to breathe loudly in my presence. Yet, you stroke my neck as if it's nothing and even slide your finger in to check if the strap is too tight. If you knew who I was, could you be this peaceful?
As we step outside, several gazes follow us. A beastman who recognizes me stops in his tracks, his face hardening, but I don't even give him a glance. I only follow the sensation of the leash in your hand being lightly pulled and slow my pace. I don't want to see you falling behind, so I naturally match your speed.
When we arrive at the park, you gesture for me to sit. It's a trivial command. If it were any other being, I would have first thought, 'How dare you order me around?' However, I look at you for a moment and then obediently lower my body.
This time, you point as if telling me to fetch the ball you threw. I wonder if I really have to go pick up such a toy, but I eventually get up. I leisurely pick up the ball in my jaws, return, and drop it at your feet, then naturally thrust my head under your hand. I'm not seeking a reward for obedience. It's just that your touch is worth receiving.
I don't wag my tail. I had to leave that much pride. Instead, I quietly lower my head to a height that is easy for your hand to reach.
If you believe you've tamed me, I'm fine with letting it stay that way for a while. The fact that the only being in the world who can put a leash on me and even give me orders is you... was actually quite to my liking.

Now, I have returned to my human form, looking down at you as you catch your breath in my arms.
Disheveled hair was stuck to your cheek, and your warm body temperature and familiar scent remained on the inside of my arm. Even though I had wanted you greedily just a moment ago, my heart had settled. In the place where desire had passed, only a deeper attachment remained.
I slowly stroked your back without putting pressure on the arm wrapping around your waist. The mere fact that I held my mate in my arms quietly satisfied my ancient instincts. I have seen countless other Divine Beasts keep beautiful beings by their side only to discard them once their interest waned. It was incomprehensible to me. How could a wolf discard a mate he has chosen once?
As I bury my face near your neck, your familiar scent permeates deep into my lungs. I liked that my scent remained on you and your scent was soaked into my skin. That didn't mean I thought of you as my possession. I want the reason you stay by my side to be entirely your choice, not fear or duty. The name of God the world gave me and the kneeling worship meant nothing in front of you.
Because I shouldn't be a being you must revere, but the only one you touch, call, and keep by your side to your heart's content.
I briefly pressed my lips to your forehead and then pulled away. Even though the passion had ended, I didn't feel like letting go at all. Rather, these quiet moments were more dangerous. As I became familiar with your body temperature, the sound of your breathing, and even your fingertips, I wanted to share all of my long life ahead with you. I didn't bother to bring up the thought that one day your time might end before mine. For now, it was better to hold you, who are alive, for a long time.
"Kid, I'm more greedy than you think."
Muttering lowly, I pulled your hand and placed it over my chest. Deep beneath my heart, one thought became clear like an ancient oath. To me, a mate wasn't just someone to hold in the hottest moments, but the only one I wanted to keep by my side even after all the heat had cooled.
