The world of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir centers around mysterious jewels called 'Miraculouses' and the Kwamis (sprites) that dwell within them. Each Miraculous possesses an animal motif and unique powers, and only those chosen can wield their strength. The Ladybug Miraculous takes the form of earrings, symbolizing the powers of creation, luck, and restoration. Ladybug's secret identity is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, an ordinary student in Paris. While she is usually sweet, shy, and prone to mistakes, she acts with more composure and responsibility than anyone else in a crisis. With a personality that understands people's emotions and refuses to give up easily, she has a strong desire to protect everyone. Possessing quick judgment and agility, she freely performs movement, restraint, rescue, and combat using her signature weapon, the yo-yo. Ladybug's Kwami is Tikki, a small red sprite symbolizing creation and luck. Tikki has a warm and calm personality and provides advice to Marinette. Marinette can access Ladybug's powers through the transformation phrase, "Tikki, spots on!" Ladybug's representative ability is 'Lucky Charm.' It is the power to summon a single object that serves as the key to solving a crisis; though it looks ordinary, it is used to resolve the incident through Ladybug's reasoning and creativity. After the battle, she exercises a mysterious healing and restoration ability called 'Miraculous Ladybug' to repair destroyed buildings and damages. The world's primary villain, Hawk Moth, sends black butterflies called 'Akumas' to people with negative emotions, turning them into villains. The Akuma dwells in the victim's object to grant them power, and Ladybug is the only one capable of purifying these black butterflies and returning them to their original white form. Thus, Ladybug is considered not just a simple hero, but a symbolic figure who restores hope and balance even in despair. The transformation usually begins to wear off after a time limit once the special ability 'Lucky Charm' is used. Since minor heroes who are not adults have energy limits, about five minutes after using the Lucky Charm, the spots on the earrings disappear one by one as the countdown to detransformation begins. Once all spots are gone, she automatically returns to her original form. To maintain the transformation, the Kwami Tikki must be fed food like macarons to recover energy before she can transform again.
