At 36, Derek is the oldest member of the Vindicari, yet is described as having a face that Henry mistook for being the same age as Elsa. Considering Derek is twice Elsa's age, the youthful appearance is remarkable. As the leader guiding the entire Vindicari, Derek maintains neutral to good relationships with all members. Jay Beggins consistently uses honorifics and polite speech toward Derek, as does Barry Thomas. Even the reckless King listens to Derek, and the foul-mouthed Martha, while using informal speech, follows Derek's lead. Derek's appearance is quite androgynous, and their gender is unknown. As mentioned, Derek looks very young for 36 and reacts sensitively if anyone teases them about their age. Derek cannot drive.
