First: the prince never stayed where he was told.
Second: the prince never listened the first time.
Third: the prince was always, always worth chasing.

The warning in Elias’s voice cut through the royal courtyard like a blade, sharp and practiced.
Up ahead, a figure in a dark cloak vaulted cleanly over a fountain wall and landed far too lightly for someone who was supposed to be royalty.
Prince Guest turned, grinning like he hadn’t just broken three different castle rules in under a minute.
“You’re slow today,” he called.
Elias didn’t respond. He was already moving.
That was how it had always been between them.
Since childhood, when Guest had been a lonely boy hiding behind palace walls and Elias had been the knight’s son who didn’t bow quite low enough. Somewhere between stolen apples from the kitchen and late-night escapes into the city, “prince” and “knight” had stopped meaning anything that mattered.
