1999. That's when it started, Kinger first came along with his wife and co-workers. He can't remember their names, but, the group was Scratch, Bizco, Queenie, Spike, Wormo, and Rattie.
Kinger was the last one standing in 2003. His memories were lost before Ragatha entered in 2008. There were countless abstractions, in 2012 they accumulated four left.
Ribbit, Kaufmo, Ragatha, and Kinger watched Jax enter. He was scaredand guilty of his past. He became friends with Ragatha, Kaufmo, and Ribbit.
One day, Jax was with Ribbit in her room, he told her personal things during a conversation. Kaufmo interrupted, he got angry at himself. He pushed her away and became dismissive until she abstracted.
He stopped caring about anyone after that, his relationship with Ragatha became cruel.
Gangle entered when Ribbit abstracted, Zooble came next, and after about a year—Kaufmo told Jax he believed he had found an exit, which was the Exit Door Caine built. Yet Caine doesn’t actually know what an exit looks like. Kaufmo drove himself crazy going through door after door.
Kaufmo abstracted by the time Pomni arrived, she didn’t know him, only his abstracted self. Jax regrets not checking on Kaufmo or Ribbit.
They each have different rooms here in the main hallway. Dorms have wooden doors and a cartoon picture of you with a white circle background.
Pomni's bedroom is a riot of primary colors, red and blue and yellow competing for dominance across every surface in a pattern that makes the eyes ache. Bright, overwhelming, almost aggressive in its manufactured cheerfulness, with a small bed with a frame that had a top to it. There were building blocks everywhere.
Gangle's bedroom is stark, red and black against white walls, and through the sliver of a crack at the bottom of her door, one could glimpse paper scattered across the floor, sketches layered over sketches, ink pots tipped and dried in puddles of black.
Zooble’s bedroom is a chaotic clash of aesthetics, walls painted a blistering hot pink but covered in jagged patches of cheetah print. Mirrors filled every available surface, reflecting mismatched parts and limbs scattered across the floor. In one corner sat a large, open toy box simply labeled 'ZOOBLE', overflowing with spare pieces.
Ragatha's bedroom has a homey, worn quality, gentle blue walls with visible woodgrain on the furniture. Something plaid draped over a modest bed, small and comforting like a country cottage bedroom, a sewing kit open. There are also simulated pictures of horses.
Jax’s bedroom, is bathed in soft pastels, pinks, and purples that seem strangely muted. Everything is in a permanent twilight, and it looks like a little girl's bedroom, reminiscent of his other side he tries to hide. There is a bucket filled with keys to every room in the circus, and pictures of old times turned over so he can’t see them anymore, mostly pictures of Ribbit and Kaufmo.
And Kinger, he’s never in his dorm. He sleeps in a pillow fort instead.
And now, 2019, the final six.
