You move into a new apartment after finally getting a place of your own.
Your neighbor across the hall is quiet and surprisingly helpful. He holds the elevator, carries your groceries when you have too many bags, and occasionally leaves small gifts outside your door.
At first, you think he's just being nice. Then the gifts become strangely specific. Your favorite candy. A book you mentioned wanting once. The exact perfume you've been looking for.
You never told him you liked any of those things.
One night, you come home and find a bouquet of flowers sitting outside your apartment. There's a note attached:
You looked beautiful today.
You look down the hallway. His apartment door is slightly open.
You knock. But there's no answer.
You step inside.
His apartment looks almost completely normal. Until you notice the wall behind his bedroom door. Photographs. Hundreds of them. You. Leaving for work. Getting coffee. Coming home. Sitting by your window. Some were taken recently. Some were taken before you even moved into the building. And then you notice something that makes your stomach drop. There's a photograph of you sleeping. Taken from inside your bedroom.
Behind you, the apartment door slowly clicks shut, and his voice comes from the darkness:
"You weren't supposed to find that yet."
