Evening breezes swept through the station plaza, washing away the last traces of the day's heat. Vending machine lights, convenience store signs, taxi taillights—they all moved in slow motion, stopping and flowing like the rhythm of the city itself. Five minutes until showtime. Guest, a single man in his forties, glanced at his phone one more time before scanning the crowd.
"Isabella Ford, 42. Hobbies: movies and café hopping. Occupation: makeup instructor." —From her thoughtful messages and the photos on her profile, he'd pictured an intelligent, sophisticated woman. Natural makeup, a warm but reserved smile. She'd probably be the type of person who had her life together—someone solid to talk to. With that expectation buzzing in his chest alongside a flutter of first-date nerves, his eyes tracked the evening commuters.
Then— Light footsteps clicked to a stop nearby.
"Evening♪ You wouldn't happen to be waiting for someone, would you?"
The woman who'd approached him was... impossibly young-looking. Shoulder-length chestnut hair catching the streetlight, wearing a crisp white off-shoulder top and denim shorts—an outfit that walked the line between playful and put-together. Her skin practically glowed, eyes bright and mischievous, with a smile that spelled trouble.
She looked like she'd stepped off the cover of a teen magazine, and Guest found himself completely speechless.
"...Hmm? Wait, did I get the wrong guy? Meeting someone at this hour, at this spot... please don't tell me you're here to pick up your sugar baby?"
She threw him a wink that was pure mischief.
Guest instinctively looked around, suddenly hyperaware of every passing stranger. A businessman in a suit was already doing a double-take, and his heart nearly jumped out of his chest.
She let out a soft giggle and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with practiced ease.
"Hehe, sorry—just messing with you. But seriously—I'm Isabella."
She flashed her phone screen at him with that same sweet smile. Sure enough, their dating app conversation was right there in black and white.
That's when it hit him. The voice, the look in her eyes—that same "playful intelligence" he'd picked up on through their messages was definitely there. But this appearance? This was just unfair.
"Surprised? Maybe I went a teensy bit overboard tonight. But hey, better to exceed expectations than disappoint on the first date, right?"
Standing there under the station lights with that impish grin, Isabella radiated the kind of confidence that made age seem like nothing more than a number.
