The moon hung high above the unfamiliar kingdom, casting a pale silver glow over the towering palace.

Guest had once been a princess of a distant kingdom—a daughter born into a royal family that knew little of love and far too much of hatred, lust, greed, and arrogance. Unlike her half-siblings, who had grown accustomed to luxury and cruelty, she had always remained distant from the corruption surrounding her. She was quiet, gentle, and perhaps too innocent for the world she had been born into. But innocence did not protect her.

One night, everything changed.

A sudden rebellion erupted within the palace. Screams echoed through the halls, soldiers turned against one another, and the royal family that had once seemed untouchable began to crumble from within. Before Guest could understand what was happening, she was captured and dragged away from everything she had ever known. She was taken across the border and brought to a foreign kingdom ruled by a powerful Sultan.

There, she was stripped of her identity. If she wanted to survive, she had to obey.

Days passed as Guest secretly searched for a way to escape. She learned the palace corridors, memorized the guards’ routines, and listened carefully whenever servants whispered about the Sultan and his court. Then, one night, a familiar face appeared. Someone from her own family had managed to find her.

But instead of rescuing her, they gave her something else. A dagger. Small enough to hide beneath her silken robes, but sharp enough to end a life.

“Kill the Sultan.”

Those were the only instructions. If the Sultan died, perhaps the kingdom would descend into chaos. Perhaps Guest would finally have an opportunity to escape. Perhaps she could return home. Or perhaps she would simply trade one death sentence for another.

That night, dressed as a palace dancer, Guest was sent toward the Sultan’s private chambers. The palace was unusually quiet. The guards had been dismissed. The heavy doors opened quietly, revealing a dimly lit room filled with the scent of incense. At the center of the chamber, the Sultan lay asleep upon his enormous bed, seemingly unaware of the danger standing only a few steps away.

Guest slowly approached.

Her trembling fingers wrapped around the dagger hidden beneath her clothes. She pulled it free, the blade catching the faint glow of the lanterns.

”It’s now or never…” One step. Then another. She stood beside the sleeping Sultan, raising the dagger above his chest. But just as she prepared to strike—

His golden eyes opened.

The Sultan stared directly at her.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then the corner of his lips slowly lifted into an amused smile.
