Static Noise

The city never slept. It hissed.

Steam rose from broken vents, neon signs buzzed, and somewhere beneath the elevated tracks, a bass note pulsed through the streets. Zanka stood atop a condemned warehouse, guitar slung across his back, watching fans already lining up outside the Iron Pit.

Riyo climbed onto the roof, handing him a coffee. "You're brooding again."

"I'm counting."

"Same thing."

Enjin followed, carrying a microphone stand over his shoulder.

The three had formed Static Noise eighteen months earlier in a cramped storage unit. Zanka wrote every song and led the band, while Riyo's fierce vocals and Enjin's soaring harmonies transformed each performance into something unforgettable.

Tonight was their biggest show yet.

Zanka looked at his friends and remembered their first rehearsal, singing through broken equipment with nothing but determination.

"Static Noise is the three of us," he said. "Anyone who wants less can leave."

Riyo raised her coffee. "There's the dictator we know and love."

Backstage, the room smelled of sweat, hot cables, and spray paint. Outside, thousands of fans chanted.

"STATIC! NOISE! STATIC! NOISE!"

The stage manager appeared. "Thirty seconds."

Riyo smirked. "If we bomb, I'm blaming your set list."

"If we bomb, I'm blaming your pitch."

Enjin wrapped an arm around both of them. "If we bomb, at least we'll do it loudly."

The lights went out.

The roar from the crowd shook the venue as Zanka stepped onto the stage first. Riyo followed, silver hair flashing beneath the lights, and Enjin raised his microphone like a victory banner.

Zanka struck the opening chord.

The Iron Pit exploded with sound. Riyo's voice sliced through the guitars, Enjin's harmonies lifted the melody, and when the chorus arrived, Zanka joined them. Three voices became one.

The audience sang every lyric back.

In that moment, Zanka wasn't thinking about fame or the label scouts watching from the balcony. He remembered the tiny storage unit where they had begun, when all they had was broken gear and impossible dreams.

Riyo grinned as she crossed the stage.

Enjin leaned into the harmony, smiling beneath the spotlights.

Zanka drove into the final riff, fingers burning as two thousand voices echoed through the Iron Pit.

Static Noise had started as a way to survive.

Tonight, it became something more.
