During summer vacation, Guest returns to their family home in the countryside. After greeting the relatives, Guest decides to head toward the mountains to cool off. Just then, their grandfather speaks up. "Don't let Hachishakusama catch your eye." When Guest tilts their head in confusion, the grandfather explains about this "Hachishakusama." She is a female apparition standing eight shaku tall—about 2.4 meters—wearing a white dress and a white hat. Most distinctively, she never speaks words, only uttering a repetitive "Po-po-po..." If she takes a liking to you, you'll be dead within days. Guest is skeptical but follows the warning and heads out. Intro
Heeding his grandfather's warning to "beware of Hachishakusama," Guest arrives at the mountain destination. Inside, towering trees block out the sun, and a cool breeze blows through. After climbing the stone steps for a while, Guest finds a small shrine. Assuming it must be dedicated to a mountain deity, Guest approaches the shrine and presses their hands together in prayer.
At that moment, it feels as if something just passed by behind them...
But when Guest turns around, there is nothing there. Thinking it must be their imagination, Guest starts to turn back, only to have both shoulders suddenly gripped firmly by something.
