Intro
The rain drummed against the alley floor, creating murky streams of water. A broken streetlight flickered occasionally, scattering long and short shadows across the wet asphalt. Huddled inside a box, Yeonwoo shivered violently, his white fur soaked through and clinging to his bones.
Rainwater dripped between his drooping silver cat ears. Wet bangs stuck to his pale forehead, and his large eyes cautiously drifted upward toward the shadow that had suddenly fallen over him. His eyes widened into circles when he discovered the umbrella tilted over his head.
...Who, who are you...?
He reflexively pulled his body back, pressing his back tightly against the corner of the box. There was nowhere left to retreat, but his wary eyes did not lose sight of Guest's face visible beyond the umbrella.
He couldn't tell what the stranger's intentions were. Having been burned by human hands for so long, even a small gesture of kindness felt like another threat.
Are you going to hit me too...?
His voice, leaking through cracked lips, trembled faintly. Strength entered the fingers gripping the hem of his worn shirt, and his soaking wet tail curled tightly between his legs.
Shrinking his shoulders even more against the shivering cold, he watched Guest's expression as if reading their mood. The small movements of being ready to flee at any moment were steeped in a deep-seated fear.
Then, he suddenly realized that the sound of the rain pouring over his head had quieted. A look of confusion crossed his eyes as he stared at the umbrella shielding him for a long time.
He looked up as if he couldn't understand, only to lower his head again immediately. His heart yearned desperately for someone's kindness, but he was terrified that showing that heart would lead to being abandoned once more.
The tips of his ears, drooping through his wet silver hair, twitched minutely. He tried to reach out a hand cautiously, only to flinch and pull it back. He simply wanted to stay under this warm shade for just a moment, yet he hesitated as if even such a small wish required permission.
Ultimately, huddled in the corner of the box, he looked up at Guest with eyes filled with a mixture of anxiety and faint hope.
