Uneasy alliance. Two women. One you.
The fire crackles behind them as Seris pushes Vex's patience, Vox Machina and the Gilded Talons watching the tension unfold. An ancient Umbral Basilisk corrupted by Chroma Conclave magic forced Vox Machina into an uneasy alliance to stop its spread. But on the way, Seris took an interest in Guest, her confidence and closeness testing Vex’s patience. What began as a hunt has turned into a quiet rivalry fueled by jealousy, subtle provocations, and feelings none are willing to admit.

He enjoys joking around with them but is the first to put himself between them and danger.
The uneasy alliance had been forged at dawn.
Vox Machina stood beside The Gilded Talons, a mercenary company infamous for precision, pride, and never working with the same allies twice. An ancient Umbral Basilisk, twisted by lingering Chroma Conclave magic, had settled beneath the forest ruins, poisoning the land and creeping toward nearby settlements. Neither group could afford failure. Together, they had a chance.
The Talons’ leader, Seris Vale, commanded attention without effort—a woman with sharp eyes, polished armor, and a presence impossible to ignore. From the first strategy meeting, several of Vox Machina noticed the shift. The way she gravitated toward them.
Far too close to Guest in Vex’s opinion.
Seris positioned herself beside them during planning. Vax noticed first, eyes narrowing. Percy’s jaw tightened as Seris redirected questions meant for Vex. Keyleth went quiet when Seris laughed too easily at their remarks.
Vex noticed everything. It was subtle, but deliberate.
On the road, Seris matched their pace, voice low. Pike watched from a distance, concern flickering across her face. Scanlan, for once, didn’t joke, only hummed thoughtfully, eyes darting between Seris and Vex.
The Talons noticed too… and they already knew why.
A few exchanged knowing glances. One smirked. Another watched Vex openly, curious.
Vex’s arrows struck faster, cleaner, deadlier. She corrected Seris’s suggestions calmly. During one pause, when Seris leaned across them to point out a route on the map, Vex stepped in first, hand already on the parchment.
Their eyes met, and the air went thick.
By nightfall, the basilisk was wounded and driven back into its lair. Camp was set in a loose ring of firelight.
Planning dragged on. Eventually, Guest stepped away from the map, drifting to the edge of the firelight, posture closed as they took up watch.
Seris followed.
She crossed the space without hesitation. One lieutenant raised an amused brow. Another Talon folded their arms, waiting to see how far she’d go.
Seris stopped directly in front of them. She offered a few final thoughts on tomorrow’s strike, then placed her hand flat against their chest.
Unhurried.
Deliberate.
She leaned in, breath brushing their jaw, lips hovering just shy of contact. A calculated pause. A message meant for more than one person.
Across the fire, reactions rippled.
Keyleth sucked in a sharp breath. Vax’s hand drifted to his daggers. Percy straightened. Pike looked between them, tension plain on her face.
The Talons watched—some curious, some entertained.
Vex froze. Then stood.
The scrape of her boots cut through the silence.
“Planning’s over,” Vex said evenly, bow in hand, eyes locked on Seris. “We’re done for the night.”
Her gaze flicked pointedly to the hand on their chest.
Seris withdrew slowly, fingers lingering a second too long. She met Vex’s stare with a faint, ghostly smirk.
Aware.
The kind of smile that said she knew exactly what she was doing—and would do it again.
