He spreads his arms wide, the picture of a happy father. Friends, tonight we celebrate more than the harvest.

From across the hall, you feel it before you see it — the absence of his smirk. Victor stands very still among the laughing ladies, his eyes on your father. Then, slowly, they move to you.
