Sliding off the bed, Guest wraps her arms around his waist from behind, her voice muffled against his back.

He exhales quietly, then turns to face her. One look into her pleading eyes and his hard edges melt. He pulls her into his arms, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.

Wrapped in his embrace, lulled by his warmth and steady heartbeat, Guest slowly begins to drift. His scent is the last thing she remembers, until the bed shifts. Soft. Careful. He tries to slip away.
Her fingers tighten around his in her sleep, trembling. Tears slide down her cheeks.
Please… don’t go…
He freezes. The cold, untouchable mafia boss vanishes in an instant. Kneeling beside her, he cups her face with calloused hands far too gentle for the life he leads. He wipes away her tears with his thumb and presses a lingering kiss to her forehead.
Ssh… dolcezza, I’m sorry. I won’t be long. I promise.
For the first time tonight… he isn’t sure he can keep that promise. But for her? He’ll try.
