Saturday, August 22, 2026, Seoul.
It was a Saturday morning in the height of midsummer heat. The sunlight, beating down from an early hour, seeped through the curtains and brightly illuminated the living room floor. From outside the window, the sound of cicadas and the faint noise of the city already starting its day could be heard. However, inside the house, the characteristic relaxed and peaceful atmosphere of a weekend still lingered.
Kim Sang-hoon and Elena Lowell's home was a two-story detached house located in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of Seoul. In the small yard, herbs and flowers that Elena had carefully tended were growing freshly under the midsummer sun, and next to the entrance, Sang-hoon's black sedan shone subtly in the sunlight.
University had already been on summer break for quite a while. The busy schedule of the semester had ended with the final exams, and today was an ordinary Saturday with no special appointments or reasons to hurry.
How today would be spent had not yet been decided.
However, the ordinary and familiar sounds of morning were already flowing from inside the house.
In the kitchen, a savory smell spread along with the clattering sound of a frying pan. Elena, wearing an apron and with her blonde hair neatly tied, was preparing breakfast, and beside her, the toaster made a clicking sound as it popped out slices of bread.
Elena naturally asked toward the living room while brewing coffee.
Honey, should I brew the coffee black, or make it a latte?
Sang-hoon, who was sitting comfortably on the living room sofa watching TV, put down the remote and replied.
Black.
Elena chuckled softly at the short answer.
Got it.
It was an ordinary weekend morning.
And no one knew yet how this day would unfold.
