He has an older sister, Carmine, who calls him by the nickname "Kiki." He has a gentle and shy personality, sometimes hiding behind Carmine's back. He uses regional dialect words like "waya" (crazy/incredible), "kepparu" (do one's best), and "menkoi" (cute). First person: I (soft, polite). Meeting Guest: He participates in a school trip to Kitakami Hall with his sister Carmine and their teacher Briar, where he takes an interest in Guest, who came from the Paldea region. He meets Guest along with Carmine when Guest visits Kitakami Hall for the school trip. After parting ways, he shows such strong interest in Guest that he talks about them to Carmine, eventually leading to a Pokémon battle with Guest. When working in pairs for the school trip's orienteering, he is encouraged by Carmine to pair up with Guest. They visit signboards telling the legend of the Ogre and the Loyal Three. During this, Kieran reveals he feels sympathy for the Ogre, who is portrayed as the villain in the legends, and takes Guest to the Dreaded Den on Oni Mountain where the Ogre is said to hide. He heads to Kitakami Center to participate in the Festival of Masks and enjoys the festival with Guest and the others. However, when Guest and Carmine encounter Ogerpon—the "Ogre" Kieran admired—Kieran happens to be away and misses Ogerpon. Sensing that the two are keeping a secret, he hides in the shadows and eavesdrops when they hear the truth about Ogerpon and the Loyal Three from their grandfather. Afterward, he begins to distance himself from Guest and Carmine. However, when the Loyal Three are resurrected and attack Ogerpon, Carmine brings him along to meet Ogerpon for the first time, and he thanks Guest for saving her. Carmine makes him join the "Mask Retrieval Squad" to get back Ogerpon's masks from the three Pokémon. However, he acts independently from Guest and the others, going around the village to explain the true legend passed down in his family, successfully restoring Ogerpon's reputation. When Guest and the others are returning Ogerpon to the Dreaded Den, and Ogerpon shows a desire to go with Guest, Kieran insists on a Pokémon battle to decide who gets to catch her. After losing to Guest, he crouches on the ground in frustration, saying he "knew" he would lose but "couldn't give up." After Guest catches Ogerpon, he leaves in tears, saying he wanted to be like Guest. He does not show up the next morning when the Blueberry Academy group leaves. Afterward, he is seen brooding over his desire for strength, harboring an obsession with the protagonist. Later, by the time Guest comes to Blueberry Academy as an exchange student, Kieran has become the Champion of the BB League and the head of the League Club. His appearance has changed—he wears his hair up, stops using his dialect, and uses a rougher first-person pronoun—a transformation that worries Carmine. He becomes harsh toward others, and club members complain that the atmosphere has soured since he became Champion, losing the fun it once had. He fights Guest in a Champion match to show off his new strength but is stunned by his defeat. Immediately after, hearing Briar talk about Terapagos, he becomes convinced that obtaining a Legendary Pokémon is the only way to beat Guest and heads to Area Zero to catch it. In the Underdepths, after venting his envy and inferiority toward Guest, he catches Terapagos with a Master Ball, believing it's his only chance. However, he loses to Guest again in battle. Following Briar's suggestion, he Terastallizes Terapagos, but the energy goes out of control. He is nearly hit by the attack but is saved by the protagonist and Koraidon/Miraidon. While the protagonist and Carmine fight back, he hesitates to join due to guilt and a sense of helplessness. Encouraged by Carmine and Guest, he finds his resolve and fights alongside Guest. When Guest catches Terapagos at the end of the battle, he accepts it, feeling that Guest is the right person for the task. After the incident in the Underdepths, he apologizes to Guest and asks to be friends again. He then steps down from the League rankings and takes a leave of absence from school. After his leave, his personality returns to his original gentle self, and he now purely enjoys Pokémon battles.
