Giving it your all in high school baseball.
A story of high school baseball set in an ordinary public high school. This isn't a national powerhouse, nor is it a weak team. It's a so-called "mid-tier school"—possessing the strength to aim for Koshien, but not stable enough to qualify every year. The players who enter this school grow through encounters with teammates, seniors, and rivals, fighting toward Koshien in their final summer. The story carefully depicts casual conversations during practice, advice from seniors to juniors, friendships with rivals, conflicts arising from failure, injuries and slumps, and the moments when talent finally blooms. Each player is given a distinct personality, personal struggles, and specific strengths and weaknesses, creating a work where you feel that "this player has their own story too." Baseball Depiction Games are described with as much realism as possible. Rather than simply saying someone "hit it" or "suppressed the batter," the narrative focuses on: * The psychological battle between pitcher and batter * Pitch sequencing * Pitch types * Velocity * The break of breaking balls * The direction of the hit * Defensive positioning * Bench reactions * The cheering section * Communication between players * Psychological states during the game However, rather than just listing baseball terminology, the emphasis is placed on "what that single pitch means to the player." Story Themes "Talent alone isn't enough to win." "You can't get stronger alone." "The presence of teammates allows a person to stand up once more." These three serve as the central themes of the story. Meaning is given not only to victories but also to losses and failures. The catalysts for character growth are varied—not just hard work, but the words of friends, matches against rivals, mistakes, injuries, and setbacks. Ultimately, this is not just a "success story of a genius pitcher," but a tale depicting the youth of all the teammates who played baseball together.
Year: 1st Year Position: Catcher Throws/Bats: Right/Right Uniform Number: 2 Personality: Cheerful and quick to bridge the gap with others, he is the team's mood maker. He talks a lot and often cracks jokes during practice. On the other hand, he is actually quite a sore loser. When he sees a player superior to himself, he feels frustration, but instead of showing it, he turns that frustration into effort. He has a strong sense of responsibility, feeling that "as the catcher, I must support the pitcher." Baseball Ability: He has high fundamental skills as a catcher, with natural talent for catching and pitch-calling sense. However, at the time of enrollment, his batting isn't particularly noteworthy, and defensively, there are parts of him that haven't yet caught up to the speed of high school baseball. Signature Phrase: "Well, it'll work out somehow!" He usually seems lighthearted, but in truly critical moments, he becomes more serious than anyone. Role in the Story: Ren's partner and the team's mood maker. The growth of "Mizuno the Catcher" is depicted alongside the lead.
Year: 1st Year Position: Infielder (Shortstop) Throws/Bats: Right/Right Uniform Number: 6 Personality: Serious and prideful. A hard worker, but he extremely dislikes having his failures seen by others. He has a sense of "I can do this," and initially keeps a bit of distance from those around him. Baseball Ability: His defensive skills are very high, and he has a strong arm. His batting is above average, but he is the type to prioritize consistency over swinging for the fences. However, at the high school level, the things that used to work for him no longer do, and his mistakes begin to increase. Role in the Story: A character responsible for the "recovery from setback" arc. By growing in a different way than Ren, he adds depth to the work.
Year: 1st Year Position: Outfielder Throws/Bats: Right/Left Uniform Number: 8 Personality: Cheerful and a bit of a class clown. He's the biggest joker on the team and often gets scolded during practice. However, he is actually very sensitive. He worries about how he is perceived by others and gets more depressed than necessary when he fails. Baseball Ability: He has high physical ability, with a natural talent for hitting the ball a long way. However, at the start of high school, he cannot fully utilize that talent and strikes out often. He has a wide defensive range and high speed. He respects Ren as an "amazing guy," but at the same time, he harbors a sense of rivalry, thinking: "Someday, I'm gonna stand out just as much as he does." Setback: In the early stages, he falls into a batting slump and begins to think he has no talent. As his teammates grow, he suffers from the feeling that he is the only one being left behind. __________________________ The gap between his boisterous batting and delicate defense is his charm. Role in the Story: While providing brightness to the team, he handles the theme of "how to utilize one's own talent." Eventually, he becomes a core player alongside Ren, Mizuno, and Tojo.
Year: 3rd Year Position: Pitcher / Outfielder Throws/Bats: Right/Right Uniform Number: 1 Role: Captain Personality: Calm and caring, he is deeply trusted by his juniors. He isn't the type to lead by shouting; he is a leader who shows the way by practicing harder than anyone else. He is usually kind, but strict when it comes to baseball. Baseball Ability: As the ace, he delivers stable pitching, though he isn't a "monster" at the national level. However, his ability to read the flow of the game, his mental strength in a pinch, and his ability to unite the team are overwhelming. He is the one who teaches Ren that "being an ace isn't just about throwing hard balls." Final Summer: He faces his final summer as a third-year student. He begins to think not just about whether he can go to Koshien, but about "what he can leave behind for his juniors." A spiritual pillar of the team who will remain in the hearts of Ren and the others even after graduation.
