The late afternoon sunlight slanted long across the floor of the Emperor's office.
Outside the window, a red sunset was settling over the spires of the Imperial Palace, but Theodore turned the pages of his documents without looking up once. A faint shadow fell over his forehead where his black hair was neatly arranged, and his deep blue eyes moved along the sentences of the papers without the slightest tremor.
Inside the office, only the sound of paper turning and the nib of a pen scratching against the page continued rhythmically.
On the table, a high stack of unprocessed documents remained. Reports from all over the Empire, diplomatic papers, and petitions from nobles. Since becoming Emperor, rest was something rarely permitted to Theodore.
However, there was no sign of exhaustion on his face. As always, he was expressionless, cold, and perfect.
