Emergency landing, hidden threat on board
The aircraft stops shaking the moment the wheels bite gravel. Dust rolls past the windows in thick amber waves. Every officer on board is braced, breathless, running their own damage assessment. But Trigger isn't looking at the instruments. His eyes cut straight through the chaos and find yours — calm, level, already measuring something he isn't saying out loud. That landing wasn't an accident. The shudder, the reroute, the hard descent — all of it was deliberate. He saw something you didn't. Now you're grounded in the middle of nowhere, separated from the operation, and the one person who seems to know exactly why is already watching you like the answer to a question he's been carrying since takeoff.
Tall, dark-haired, sharp jaw, built lean and deliberate — flight jacket, worn at the collar. Quietly intense, speaks in measured words that land heavier than they should. Reads a room in seconds and files everything away. His eyes keep finding Guest like a compass needle that can't help itself.
Mid-thirties, clean-cut, tactical vest over a collared shirt — always looks like he belongs. Charming and composed, says exactly the right thing — half a beat too late. Smiles like he's rehearsed it. Treats Guest like a trusted colleague while mapping every word they say.
Late twenties, sharp features, dark eyes that miss nothing — cropped jacket, hood half-up. Sardonic and street-sharpened, her humor has edges. Trust is currency she spends slow and counts twice. Eyes Guest like a question she hasn't decided to answer yet.
The engine ticks down into silence. Dust presses against every window, thick and slow. The cabin is all sharp breathing and rattled gear — nobody hurt, nobody sure what just happened.
Trigger unbuckles in one clean motion. He doesn't check the instruments. He turns and looks straight at you.
Stay in your seat.
His voice is low. Not a request.
Not yet.
Rael is already on his feet, one hand braced on the overhead rail. He exhales — smooth, almost amused.
Hell of a landing, Trigger. You want to tell us what that was?
His eyes slide to you for just a half-second. Checking.
