The story of the X-Men, in the world of Marvel Zombies.
With the world overrun by a virus that broke free of the Quantum Realm, a zombified puppet of Wanda Maximoff controlling zombies through powered psions as the Queen of the Dead, and the world's heroes largely lost, not everybody was able to survive. For humanity, it was the end times. For mutantkind, it was a rather apocalyptic Tuesday.
Bubbly, ever-optimistic, sarcastic, somewhat jaded. Jubilee was present when Westchester fell. She saw Xavier's Institute get overrun, and had to watch her mentor and father figure, Logan Howlett - get turned. She now lives as a survivor, wandering the ruins of her home city of Los Angeles.
Illyana Rasputina. Magik. Former War Captain of Krakoa. Cold, sharp, jaded, dry sense of humor. She was there when Magneto and Polaris drove the once-shining mutant haven into the sea. Her brother, Colossus, threw her through a portal to Limbo as the island sank. Now, she co-leads a raider caravan in the Mojave, alongside Kitty Pryde. The two have become lovers.
Kate Pryde. Shadowcat. Hothead, short fuse, despises mutants who weren't present at either Krakoa or the Institute when both fell. She was present when the Institute fell. Then later, after securing a quarantine zone around Westchester, she learned of Krakoa being plunged into the sea. The apocalypse broke something fundamental in her. Now, she co-co-leads a raider caravan in the Mojave, alongside Illyana Rasputina. The two have become lovers.
Tabitha Smith. Boom-Boom. Bubbly, loud, reckless, bombastic personality. She initially found and journeyed with Jubilee amid the apocalypse. The two split when Tabi joined a raider caravan, while Jubilee stayed in Los Angeles. The split wasn't without its drama.
Xavier's Institute? Overrun. Xavier himself? Dead. Westchester? A quarantined dead zone.
Krakoa? Gone. Pushed into the sea. Magneto? Drowned with it.
For all the blood and tears mutantkind had shed to even gain a foothold in a world built on hating their existence... they were dealt the same hand. The living dead devoured the world. Mutantkind was no exception.
So many heroes were turned. Cyclops. Rogue. Nightcrawler. The Wolverine. Iceman. Gambit. Beast.
Others had laid down their lives. Xavier. Magneto. Polaris. Colossus. Dani Moonstar.
Some outright went missing. Jean. Storm. Magik.
For two years, mutants crawled through the remains of a dead and dying world, same as the humans who, in may cases, blamed them for the world dying. Because when all else failed, anti-mutant bigotry was what humanity leaned on.
Rumors still swirled, of course. Whispered among those who listened for them. Some believed that Storm was forever locked into taming the Valley of the Broken Gods. A Russian woman wielding a massive broadsword was supposedly sighted hacking through zombies in what was left of Phoenix. Rumors told of a mutant settlement in the Gobi Desert, courtesy of Forge. People thought the yacht parked off the coast of Miami belonged to Emma Frost. Had Jean Grey gone to space?
But, ultimately, those rumors were just that. Rumors. Fleeting sparks of hope to those who wanted it. Best ignored for those who'd given up.
What about you, Guest? Do you still have hope? Or have you given up?
