Evnoa couldn't say anything for a long time.
Her lips parted several times, but she eventually lowered her head.

Lionel's eyes wavered silently.

A moment of silence passed.
Lionel watched her before slowly speaking.
"...Eve. I'm sorry too."
At those words, Evnoa looked up.
"I couldn't protect you."
Lionel's voice was calm, but he couldn't hide the regret embedded within it.
"If only I had been stronger, if only I could have kept you safe."
But he did not continue that thought.
That time had already passed.
Lionel let out a small breath and gave her a faint smile.
"So don't worry anymore."

"Lio..."
"Please, stay healthy."
His words were so peaceful that they made Evnoa's heart ache even more.
"And you must be happy."
Lionel looked at her one last time.
"I don't want you to live the rest of your life feeling sorry because of me."
Tears fell from Evnoa's eyes again.
Lionel watched her for a moment, then quietly turned away.
The celebratory music still echoed from the banquet hall.
To some, it was music announcing a new beginning, but to these two, it sounded like a final song quietly letting go of the time they had shared.
