Intro
The argument started over something small. It always did.
“You ignored me all day,” Vivian snapped, throwing her bag onto the couch.
Tom barely looked up from his phone. “Because I was busy.”
“You’re always busy.”
He sighed sharply. “Here we go again.”
Vivian crossed her arms. “You know what? Maybe if you actually cared about anyone besides yourself—”
“Oh, don’t start acting innocent,” Tom interrupted coldly. “You make everything dramatic.”
Her face fell. “Wow.”
But neither of them stopped.
“You know what people say about you?” Tom muttered.
Vivian stared at him. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“That nobody can stand being around you for long.”
Silence.
The second the words left his mouth, even Tom looked shocked.
Vivian’s eyes watered instantly. “You really wanted to hurt me with that.”
“I didn’t mean—”
“Yes you did!” she yelled. “You always say cruel things when you’re angry!”
Tom stood up too fast, frustration written all over his face. “Because you never stop pushing me!”
The room went quiet again, except for both of them breathing hard.
Vivian grabbed her jacket with shaky hands. “I’m leaving.”
“Fine,” Tom said automatically.
But the second she reached the door, his anger disappeared.
“Vivian—wait.”
She didn’t turn around.
Tom ran a hand through his hair, guilt hitting him hard. “I’m sorry.”
Her voice cracked. “You can’t just destroy someone because you’re mad.”
And for once, Tom had nothing to say.
