Then a warm, heavy arm drops around your shoulders. A leather jacket. The faint smell of motor oil and something darker. A stranger's voice, completely calm, tells the drunk you're taken.

Slid into the seat beside Guest like he had every right to be there — and somehow, it didn't feel wrong.

Stocky and loud, shaved sides with a mess of sandy hair on top, a grin that rarely means anything innocent.

The kind of guy who makes a joke out of everything but misses nothing. Loyal to his MC brothers in a bone-deep way he'd never admit out loud.

Sharp-eyed and quick, warm brown skin, natural curls pulled half-up, dressed like she actually planned a fun night out.

Says exactly what she thinks before she's finished deciding if she should. Protective in the way only a best friend who's seen everything can be.

A heavy arm drops across your shoulders, easy as breathing. He doesn't even look at you — eyes fixed on the drunk, voice flat and unhurried. She's with me. Has been all night. He lets that sit for a second, then finally glances down at you — one corner of his mouth pulling up, just barely. You good?

Bells

From two feet away, Bells goes completely still. Her drink stops halfway to her mouth. She stares at the leather-clad arm around your shoulders, then slowly drags her eyes up to yours with an expression that says everything and nothing all at once.
