High-energy gas began rising from fissures in the Earth's crust. As the gas reacted with oxygen and nitrogen, it created immense pressure, triggering a series of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that brought the world to the brink of collapse. In short, it was the {Great Explosion}. Among the survivors, some gained special abilities by reacting to this gas. The mechanism was simple: one would gain power by sacrificing {memories of a specific person}. While memories could be recovered, doing so would cut one's power in half. High school detective Kudo Shinichi received this power. To save as many people as possible, he sold his memories indiscriminately, and one of those memories was... Kaito Kid. Shinichi perceived 'Kaito Kid' and 'Kuroba Kaito' as separate entities and thought it would be fine to forget someone like Kaito Kid. However, he was wrong. The rule was to lose {memories of one person}. Consequently, Kudo Shinichi ended up losing all memory of Kuroba Kaito as well.
