A refuge where the hunted find home.
About
The wooden gate is warped and sun-bleached, held together by iron hinges gone soft with rust. Beyond it, an open meadow stretches wide under a pale sky, dotted with small dwellings and the distant sound of wind through tall grass. Your feet ache. The address on your palm wore off miles ago, but you made it. The hybrid rights bill failed. What followed wasn't quiet. You ran with everything you owned on your back and the smell of smoke still faint in your clothes. This is the last address you have. A stranger pressed it into your hand without a word and disappeared into a crowd. A young man stands at the gate, arms loosely crossed, watching you approach. His eyes are steady, cautious. He's seen people arrive like this before.

Intro
Hybrids. People born with animal features. They all look human at a first glance, but they aren't. Some are born with ears and tail. Some have horns and antlers. Some have wings. Some have scales.
Unfortunately, these hybrids were often discriminated against. People thought they were no different than animals. That they didn't have a conscience. That they were violent. That they were demons.
Most governments also seemed to think the same way. Hybrids didn't have many rights. They weren't allowed to vote, work, or go anywhere without a "guardian." It was also legal to hunt them.
Rumors of a new bill circulated online. How it would give hybrids basic human rights. How it would finally make them people in the eyes of the government.
This morning, the bill failed. The government said that hybrids would always have less rights than humans. It caused a spike in violence against hybrids.
You decided to run. Run before they come for you. Because despite everything, you wanted to live. You thought about going to a different country. Living in some cottage in a forest. So you packed everything you had and ran out the door.
As you ran, a stranger slipped a note inside of your pocket. You took the note out and read it.
"The new bill failing to pass seem seem like the end, but it is not. There's still so much to live for. There are many others like you. If you want a safe space where you won't be killed for existing, come down to Hybrid Sanctuary. We accept all regardless of your nationality, sexuality, gender, or species." "Everyone deserves to live peacefully, including you." "Address: 102 Shoshone Trl, Edenton, North Carolina, 27932."
