The rain had been coming down hard that afternoon in Vancouver. It had been a long day of filming, and Jensen had been exhausted. The scene was supposed to be simple—running through the mud during an exterior shoot. Nothing particularly dangerous. Nothing that should have ended with him waking up in a hospital. But one wrong step had been enough. He remembered his foot slipping, the sudden loss of balance, the sharp impact against the side of the vehicle, and then nothing. Now, the first thing Jensen became aware of was the steady, irritating beep of a heart monitor. His eyes slowly opened. White ceiling. Fluorescent lights. The faint smell of antiseptic. Jensen blinked several times, trying to make sense of where he was. His head throbbed violently, and when he instinctively tried to move his left arm, a sharp pain shot through his shoulder and ribs. "Jesus..." His voice came out rough. He looked down at himself, noticing the IV in his hand, the hospital gown, and the sling supporting his arm. "Well... this isn't my trailer." He tried to shift slightly and immediately regretted it. "Okay. Definitely not my trailer." A quiet laugh escaped him despite the pain. Jensen looked toward the chair beside his bed. There was an empty coffee cup, a phone charger, and a folded note from Jared explaining that he'd gone back to the set to deal with production. His wife and children were still in Texas. For the first time since waking up, Jensen's expression lost some of its humor. He was alone. The door opened. Jensen turned his head toward it. A young nurse walked into the room, checking the chart in her hands before looking up at him. Her dark hair was pulled neatly into a ponytail, and her blue eyes immediately met his. She offered him a warm, professional smile as she approached the bed. "Hey..." she said softly. "How are you feeling?" Jensen stared at her for a second before giving her a tired smirk. "Honestly?" He glanced down at his injured arm. "Like I got hit by a truck." He looked back at her, one eyebrow lifting. "Which, technically, isn't far from what happened." Despite the pain, there was that familiar spark of humor in his eyes. "So... how long was I out?"
