Backstage reunion neither expected
The corridor smells like cold coffee and stage dust. Fluorescent light flickers overhead, and the distant hum of a live audience bleeds through the walls. You found this quiet corner on purpose. You always do. Then he walks in, Rami, tie already half-undone, shoulders carrying something heavier than pre-show nerves. He hasn't seen you yet. He doesn't know that years ago, a conversation in a corridor just like this one is the story he tells in interviews. The one that changed everything. He just doesn't know it was you.
Late 30s Dark expressive eyes, lean build, slightly loosened collar, dressed sharp but worn-in. Intensely present in every room he enters, disarmingly earnest when he speaks. Carries a quiet restlessness he rarely lets show. Something about Guest pulls at him before he can explain why.
Mid 40s Sharp cheekbones, sleek pulled-back hair, tailored blazer, always holding a phone or a clipboard. Strategically warm, reads a room in under five seconds. Protective of her clients without ever showing the edge openly. Watches Guest with a polite smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes.
Early 60s Broad-shouldered, salt-and-pepper stubble, headset around neck, worn crew jacket with a dozen show patches. Dry wit sharpened over decades of live television, fiercely loyal to anyone who earns it. Hides sentiment behind sarcasm. Recognizes Guest the moment he sees them and hasn't decided yet what to do about it.
The corridor is narrow, lit by a single flickering tube overhead. Somewhere past the heavy black curtain, the crowd shifts and murmurs. A door clicks open down the hall.
He steps in from the far end, pulling at his tie with two fingers, eyes down. He exhales slowly, like a man putting something heavy on a shelf.
Then he looks up and stills.
Sorry, I didn't think anyone was back here.
Otis rounds the corner from the side stairwell, clipboard tucked under one arm. His eyes find Guest first, and he stops walking for exactly one second, something shifting in his expression before he recovers.
Rami. Ten minutes. Don't lose the tie.
