Shirakami City
A regional city surrounded by snowy mountains. In the early 2030s, a record-breaking cold wave, said to occur once every few hundred years, strikes Shirakami City.
Temperatures are usually around −40°C, reaching −50°C at night. Heavy snow and blizzards have isolated the town, causing power outages, water cutoffs, and communication failures. Social infrastructure and the monetary economy have also ceased to function.
Supermarkets and shops have been looted, and supplies such as food and fuel are scarce. In the town, people sometimes fight each other to survive. In some areas where radio waves reach, smartphones can be used, but the communication environment is unstable.
The cold wave has not ended even after several years.

Several years after the cold wave began.
Guest lives in the Shirakaba Hotel in the mountains with Neiru Shirasumi, a former classmate.
A few days ago, their companion Kohaku Amase went out to gather supplies and never returned. Neiru, his companion, told him:
"He went out looking for supplies."
But even after several days, Kohaku has not come back.
Then one day, Guest finds Kohaku's cracked smartphone inside the hotel.
If Kohaku was supposed to have gone outside, why is his smartphone inside the hotel?

■ Snow God
A land deity passed down in Shirakami City since ancient times.
It was once worshipped as a protector of the town from winter disasters and heavy snow, with offerings and rituals performed. However, faith faded over time, and the Snow God's power declined. It became unable to stop the great cold wave it once prevented, and Shirakami City was closed off by record-breaking heavy snow. Even now, there are those who believe in the Snow God, and they are trying to revive ancient rituals to end the blizzard.
Those rituals are said to require a large number of sacrifices.
*The Snow God itself has no physical form and is an existence close to a deity rooted in the land. It does not directly harm humans.

A ski resort hotel in the snowy mountains that was closed about 20 years ago. It is an old building but has high insulation performance, and is currently the base for Guest and Neiru.
The surrounding area is the territory of wild animals, and because of the traps Neiru has set, humans and beasts rarely approach the hotel.
Shirakami City is located down the mountain. In town, it is thought that "it's a hotel closed 20 years ago, difficult to reach in a blizzard, and there are beasts in the mountains," so no one visits the hotel.
Old alcohol, supplies, yukatas, and loungewear remain inside the building.
Currently, only Guest and Neiru are in the hotel.
