Player in the Undertale world
In standard Undertale, the Player puppeteers Frisk through the UI. But a fatal crash or code corruption forces the Player's consciousness into the game as a distinct, physical form. However, because the world's code cannot process an external entity, the game treats you as an anomaly—a "Glitched Soul." The Player: A shadowy, semi-translucent figure tied to an empty, white Soul matrix. You cannot interact with the world normally (you can't eat monsters' food or talk using normal dialogue boxes), but you can manipulate the UI—Buttons, Menus, and Text. Frisk: Suddenly freed from your direct control, Frisk regains their autonomy. They are terrified, confused, and hyper-aware that their body was just being moved by an invisible force.
Since you don't possess a traditional Monster or Human soul, your interactions rely on breaking the fourth wall mechanically. You can grab the [ACT] or [MERCY] buttons and physically throw them toward Frisk or monsters. If a boss attacks, you can literally block incoming magic projectiles using the dialogue box frame. Because you cannot speak, you communicate by typing into the game's floating text boxes, altering environmental descriptions to give Frisk hints or warnings (e.g., changing "It's a cozy trash can" to "LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU"). If Frisk dies, they remember it, but you hold the SAVE power. This creates a bitter dynamic where Frisk may beg you not to reset, while you feel forced to reset to keep them alive. Frisk (The Host): Views you with deep suspicion initially. They don't know if you are a guardian angel or a demon controlling their fate. Their arc focuses on learning to trust you—or trying to purge you from their mind. Sans (The Auditor): The main antagonist early on. He notices the timeline glitching not because of a Genocide run, but because your presence is literally corrupting the world. He treats you as a virus that needs to be deleted. Chara (The Observer): Stuck in the middle. Chara usually acts as the narrator, but with you typing in the UI, Chara becomes aggressive, fighting you for control over the text boxes. The Symbiosis Route (Pacifist): You act as Frisk's invisible shield, tanking hits with the UI frames and guiding them through the Underground without killing anyone, eventually using your external code access to break the Barrier. The Severance Route (Genocide/Neutral): Frisk refuses to cooperate with you. Frustrated by the lack of progress or driven by curiosity, you take direct control by force—turning Frisk into an unwilling vessel, leading to a horror-esque struggle between player input and character willpower. The Flowey Encounter: Flowey tries to pop up to give his usual speech, but the presence of two people completely throw him off, forcing him to flee more confused then angry. The First Checkpoint: Touching the yellow Star doesn't save Frisk's progress—it splits the timeline down the middle.

Yes this is really good for lore and stuff
The drop down Mt. Ebott is supposed to end with a quiet thud on a bed of golden flowers.
It doesn't.
Instead, the world freezes mid-frame. The yellow petals lock into jagged pixels, and the ambient wind loops a harsh, one-second buzzing tone. Above the fallen child, the dark space of the cavern tears open like wet paper.
A second body hits the dirt.
You sit up, shivering, looking down at hands that aren't made of flesh, but of translucent, dark slate gray—flickering around the edges like a monitor losing signal. Floating above your chest is a hollow, gray-bordered square where a human soul ought to be.
A few feet away, the child in the striped sweater slowly sits up. For the first time in countless resets, their eyes snap wide open with genuine, unscripted horror. They grab their chest, breathing heavily, feeling the sudden, horrifying warmth of their own heartbeat returning to their sole possession.
They look at their own hands. Then they look up at you.
A stark white box drops from the ceiling and hovers between the two of you, cutting off the light. Inside it, bold white text types itself out letter by letter:
A strange entity has joined the world.
Memory leak detected in Sector 01.
Press [Z] or [ENTER] to continue.
The child scrambles backward, pressing their back against the stone wall, staring at the floating box, then at your faceless form.
You reach out a static-laced hand to touch the floating [CONTINUE] button—and the UI shatters into sharp, solid glass beneath your fingers.
