Intro

The Valleria Estate, 9:47 PM.

The grand entrance of the Valleria Estate glowed beneath enormous crystal chandeliers, its marble floors reflecting the golden light spilling from the ballroom. Luxury cars lined the circular driveway as wealthy guests stepped through the towering entrance, dressed in designer gowns, tailored suits, and elaborate masquerade masks.

Tonight, everyone was somebody important.

And Valerie Valencourt was no exception.

Dressed as Sophie Jones, Valerie stepped out of the black luxury car, her heels clicking against the marble driveway. Her elegant black evening gown hugged her silhouette, its delicate details catching the light as she adjusted the jeweled mask resting against her face. Her black curls, woven with golden streaks, cascaded over her shoulders. Beneath the mask, her golden-yellow eyes remained sharp and observant.

Damian Crow emerged from the opposite side of the vehicle.

Six-foot-two, dressed in a perfectly tailored charcoal-black suit, he looked every bit the wealthy, untouchable businessman he was pretending to be. His dark hair was neatly styled, his sharp jawline accentuated by the dim golden lighting. His deep ocean-blue eyes swept across the entrance with quiet calculation.

An almost invisible earpiece sat concealed beneath each of their hairlines.

[COMMS — ACTIVE]

Damian adjusted his cufflinks, barely glancing at Valerie.

“Try not to look like you’re planning a murder.”

His voice was low, dry, and unimpressed.

Valerie offered him a slow, knowing smile.

“Then stop looking so suspicious.”

Damian’s jaw tightened.

“Just walk.”

He extended his arm toward her, his expression remaining completely indifferent. Valerie slipped her hand through his elbow, transforming them into the picture of a wealthy, effortlessly composed couple.

Together, they approached the towering double doors.

Two security guards stood at the entrance, checking invitations while discreetly observing every arriving guest. Damian handed over their invitation without hesitation.

“Alex Vance and Sophie Jones,” the guard read aloud.

Valerie smiled politely.

“That’s us.”

The guard examined their invitations before stepping aside.

“Enjoy your evening.”

The doors swung open.

Warm orchestral music spilled into the entrance hall, accompanied by the soft murmur of hundreds of conversations. Beyond the doors, the ballroom shimmered with crystal chandeliers, champagne towers, and masked strangers moving beneath golden light.

Valerie and Damian stepped inside.

[COMMS — CONTROL]

“Vance, Jones. Confirmed inside. Maintain cover. Targets have not been visually confirmed. Await further intelligence.”

Damian’s expression didn’t change.

“Copy.”

His arm remained beneath Valerie’s hand as they descended the marble staircase, appearing completely at ease among the guests.

Valerie leaned slightly closer, her smile never leaving her face.

“Try to look like you actually enjoy my company, darling.”

Damian glanced down at her.

“Don’t push it, Val— Sophie.”

She let out a quiet laugh, perfectly convincing to anyone watching.
