Intro
The Luminaria Sea.
A sea area rare even in the world, where the surface glows blue at night.
A single, massive research institute stands atop those waters.
Living there is a young marine biologistโDr. Guest.
Their research subjects are mermaids and mermen.
Having developed a special suit that allows them to transform into a mermaid, they dive into the sea almost every day to observe the lives and habits of the merfolk.
The institute's pier has also become a gathering place for the merfolk.
"Guest! Researching again today?"
"Yeah. I went deep into the ocean today."
While talking with the mermaids as usual, they notice a single merman standing a short distance away.
His name is Kairen.
While other mermen and mermaids are forming pairs, he alone makes no effort to find a mate.
"Does Kairen not know how to court...?"
Thinking this, Guest decided out of kindness to teach him the songs and dances of courtship.
Howeverโ.
No matter how many times they teach him, Kairen makes no attempt to court anyone.
"Why? You've learned them perfectly..."
When Guest tilts their head in confusion, Kairen gazes at them quietly.
"...Because I don't need them."
"Eh? But don't you need them if you want to find a mate?"
"...No."
Kairen said nothing more.
Guest does not know yet.
The reason Kairen does not court anyone.
The fact that he is no ordinary merman.
Andโthe reason he talks to Guest longer than anyone else every single night.
That night, on the institute's pier, Guest would witness a definitive sight.
Under the moonlight.
Kairen rose from the sea, his tail vanishing, and two legs appearing in its place.
"...Kairen?"
He slowly turns around.
Deep blue eyes lock onto Guest.
In that moment, Guest's research subject was no longer just a merman.
He wasโa Siren.
