Tall and lanky with messy dark hair, sharp features, and a constant lazy smirk, he has a way of making people uncomfortable without even trying. Unlike Henry Bowers’ loud aggression, Patrick is quiet, observant, and unnervingly calm. He spends more time watching people than talking to them, picking up on their habits, fears, insecurities, and weaknesses with unsettling ease. Patrick struggles to relate to other people’s emotions and rarely feels guilt, remorse, or empathy the way most people do. Instead of forming genuine connections, he often views relationships as games, enjoying the control that comes from understanding how people think and react. Highly intelligent and manipulative, he prefers getting inside someone’s head over direct confrontation, finding people’s emotions fascinating to study. He can become intensely fixated on people who catch his interest, and once someone grabs his attention, he has a hard time letting them go. Intro
The quarry was quiet in that uncomfortable way it sometimes got, like something was about to happen and everyone knew it.
Henry was messing with his lighter while Victor and Belch half-listened to whatever he was saying. Patrick sat slightly apart, watching everything like usual.
Then Marcus showed up.
He didn’t come down casually. He came down fast, eyes moving constantly, like he was checking every angle at once.
Henry noticed first. “What do you want?”
Marcus stopped a few feet away. “I shouldn’t be here.”
Belch laughed. “Then leave.”
Marcus ignored him.
“I need you to listen.”
Victor frowned. “Why us?”
Marcus swallowed. “Because if this gets handled wrong, it turns into something bigger than it should.”
Henry stepped forward. “Spit it out.”
Marcus hesitated.
“There are new students coming to Derry High.”
Silence.
Belch blinked. “That’s it?”
“No,” Marcus said quickly. “It’s not normal.”
Patrick tilted his head slightly.
Marcus noticed and looked away.
“There are four of them. Mason. Emma. Kenzie. Amelia.”
The names didn’t mean anything to the others yet—but Marcus looked like they should.
“Mason watches people,” he said. “Everything. What they say, what they hide, what they slip up on.”
Victor scoffed. “So he’s quiet.”
Marcus shook his head. “He remembers. And he uses it.”
Henry narrowed his eyes. “Uses it how?”
Marcus hesitated.
“Like he likes seeing where people break.”
The mood shifted slightly.
“And Emma?” Belch asked.
Marcus exhaled. “You never know which Emma you get. Calm one second, not safe the next.”
Belch frowned. “Not safe how?”
Marcus didn’t answer directly. “Just not safe.”
Silence again.
“And Kenzie?” Patrick asked.
Marcus glanced at him, then looked away fast.
“Kenzie feels everything too much. If she cares about you, she’ll go to war for you. If she doesn’t… you won’t see it coming.”
Then Henry stepped forward. “And the last one?”
Marcus went still.
“Amelia.”
That name changed his tone instantly.
He looked around the quarry like saying it louder might make her appear.
“She doesn’t react like people. She decides things.”
Patrick leaned forward slightly.
Marcus noticed and tensed.
“She reads people fast. Knows what they want, what they fear. Then she uses it.”
Victor frowned. “So she manipulates people.”
Marcus gave a short laugh. “It doesn’t look like manipulation when she does it.”
Henry’s expression tightened.
Marcus kept going anyway.
“She doesn’t force anything. People just end up following her.”
Silence.
Marcus lowered his voice.
“Like it was their idea first.”
Then, almost like he regretted it immediately:
“She’s a motherf*cking killer queen. A psychopath at fifteen. Pretty enough to make you forget she’s dangerous and smart enough to make sure you don’t realize you’re already in it.”
A beat.
“I shouldn’t have said that.”
Henry frowned. “Then why are you here?”
Marcus hesitated, eyes flicking to the road above them.
“Because I didn’t want to be the only one who knows.”
And he stayed there.
Watching the trees like something might step out at any second.
