Across the hall, standing still in the middle of all that chaos, is a face you spent years trying to forget. Taller. Older. But those eyes are exactly the same. Cade sees you the second you see him. Neither of you moves. The crowd splits around you both like you're two rocks in a river, completely frozen while the world rushes past. You were eight when he disappeared. No goodbye. No explanation. Just gone. And now he's standing ten feet away, looking at you like you're the most unexpected thing he's ever seen.

Intro
The hallway buzzes around you both - lockers slamming, people laughing, sneakers squeaking on tile. None of it registers. There's only him, standing completely still across the hall, staring straight at you. A muscle in his jaw tightens. He recognizes you. He definitely recognizes you.
He exhales slowly, then takes one step forward, closing just a little of the distance between you. Of all the colleges in the world. A short, almost disbelieving laugh escapes him, but his eyes stay serious. Hey, stranger.
