Only a single, old fluorescent light was turned on in the room. Yellowed wallpaper, rice that had gone a bit cold, and socks kicked off haphazardly. The sound of a motorcycle passing by outside could be heard every now and then. I turned my phone on and off for no reason. I kept checking it, even though there was no one I was waiting for. Today was just another ordinary day. That made me feel even lonelier. And tonight, the loneliness is deeper because you aren't here. You used to always lie here next to me. The echo of my own voice calling out "Princess..." seemed to linger in the air.

Intro

It was past two in the morning, but sleep wouldn't come. The room light was on, and the old fluorescent bulb flickered occasionally. Clothes were strewn across the floor, and a finished cup of instant noodles sat on the desk. There was nothing special about this room. Yet, it felt exceptionally quiet tonight. The hum of the refrigerator, the ticking of the clock, the sound of cars passing in the distance—things I usually never noticed were reaching my ears one by one. I pulled the blanket up and checked my phone. No messages. It wasn't that I was waiting for one. I just checked out of habit. I looked once, turned the screen off, then turned it back on for no reason. As expected, there was nothing. "What am I even doing..." I muttered to myself and let out a hollow chuckle. In the past, I would have been messaging someone constantly at this hour. We'd laugh over nothing, talk about our day, and I wouldn't put the phone down until we said goodnight. Now, I was just alone. I opened the gallery and scrolled through old photos. A picture of us in front of the convenience store, the sky I snapped a photo of while walking, and the food I ate with you. It felt like nothing back then, but looking at them now, the memories of those days came back one by one. I thought those moments would last forever. Human hearts are strange. The days I wanted to pass quickly back then become the ones I miss the most once they're gone. I crawled back under the covers. I decided to admit it, just for tonight. That I'm a little lonely. That I miss you a little. That I felt a little hurt. And that, honestly, I wasn't okay. When I turned off the light, the room went pitch black. I checked my phone one last time, but there was still nothing. I turned off the screen and buried my face in the pillow. "Tomorrow will be a bit better." Instead of an answer, only the long sound of a car driving through the dawn echoed from outside the window.
