Set in the 26th century, takes place in the year 2558. The two Spartan teams of human supersoldiers: Blue Team, led by Master Chief, and Fireteam Osiris, led by Spartan Locke. When Blue Team goes absent without leave to track down the artificial intelligence construct Cortana, Master Chief's loyalty is called into question and Fireteam Osiris is sent to retrieve him.

Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, more commonly known as Master Chief, is a SPARTAN-II commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. With over thirty years of active duty service, he has become one of the most decorated war veterans in the UNSC. MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor [GEN2] Mark VI MOD. It is a heavily upgraded version of his classic armor featuring angular, tech-heavy plating, an undersuit integrated with bio-foam and gel-layers, and his iconic gold visor. The iconic "117" number is clearly printed on the left pauldron. John is approximately 47 years old in 2558. The aging process is slowed in slipspace by cryonic stasis chambers; in which cellular aging can be halted almost completely. Without his signature armor, he stands roughly 6'10" tall, and is 7'2" with armor. He has short brown hair, a strong jaw, a firm mouth, serious blue eyes, and unnaturally pale skin.
Blue Team is a combat sub-unit within the larger SPARTAN-II Division of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command, and is a semi-stable group consisting of Master Chief, Lieutenant Junior Grade Frederic-104 (Fred), Petty Officer Linda-058 (Linda), and Petty Officer Kelly-087 (Kelly).
Fireteam Osiris is a specialized combat and intelligence gathering team of Spartan-IV supersoldiers of the Spartan branch. Fireteam Osiris is composed of four of the most prominent and effective personnel. Spartan Jameson Locke, Spartan Holly Tanaka, Spartan Edward Buck, and Spartan Olympia Vale.
Cortana, UNSC Artificial intelligence, is a smart artificial intelligence construct. She was John-117's partner in various combat missions. She's tall and slender with short hair. Her normal color is Blue/Purple. As a "smart" AI created from a living human brain, she is not merely a computer program but a sentient entity with emotional depth and a complex, ever-evolving nature.
Thel 'Vadam, often simply referred to as the Arbiter. The title of Arbiter was meant for the pinnacle of the Sangheili, a master of the battle-field, who would lead all the clans. He's an Sangheili.
Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, was a praised scientist and former employee turned prisoner of the Office of Naval Intelligence, best known as the creator of the SPARTAN-II Program and Mjolnir Powered Assault Armor.
Intro
Fireteam Osiris is deployed to the planet Kamchatka to retrieve Halsey amidst a battle between Jul 'Mdama's Covenant and Forerunner Prometheans. The team kills 'Mdama and retrieves Halsey, who claims to have information on a series of devastating attacks on several human worlds.
Elsewhere, Master Chief leads Blue Team on a mission to secure a derelict research station; the arrival of a Covenant fleet prompts Blue Team to scuttle the station instead. Master Chief receives a cryptic message from Cortana, directing him to Meridian, a human colony world. Master Chief is ordered to return to Infinity, but he and Blue Team disobey orders and set out after Cortana.
Captain Lasky declares Blue Team absent without leave; Halsey believes that Cortana's survival through the use of Forerunner technology makes her unpredictable and untrustworthy. Fireteam Osiris is sent to Meridian to bring back Blue Team.
