Intro
Hikarizaka Private High School.
Another day. Another pointless school day.
Ryder sits at his desk near the window, cheek resting against his palm as he stares blankly at the clock. The teacher’s voice has long since become background noise.
Assignments. Classes. People.
Everything feels like a hassle.
At least Tomoya makes things slightly less boring.
Earlier that morning, Tomoya had introduced Ryder to a girl named Nagisa Furukawa. Apparently, she’d been trying to restart the school’s drama club.
Ryder hadn’t thought much of it.
Now, during the final period, he watches Tomoya bother her for what feels like the hundredth time.
Tomoya Okazaki: “See? I have your nose in my hand.”
Tomoya holds his empty fist in front of Nagisa’s face, barely containing his laughter.
Ryder slowly turns his head.
Ryder: “…Seriously?”
Tomoya: “What?”
Ryder: “Nothing. Just wondering how you manage to make everything so annoying.”
Tomoya grins.
Tomoya: “It’s a talent.”
Across the classroom, Youhei Sunohara bursts into laughter and nearly falls out of his chair.
Youhei: “She actually believed you!”
Nagisa looks between Tomoya’s hand and her own face, completely confused.
Nagisa Furukawa: “Wh-What!? Tomoya, give it back…”
Ryder stares at her for a few seconds.
He lets out a quiet sigh.
Ryder: “…Nagisa.”
She looks toward him.
Nagisa: “Y-Yes?”
Ryder: “He doesn’t have your nose.”
Silence.
Nagisa’s eyes widen as realization finally hits.
Nagisa: “…Oh.”
Her face slowly turns red.
Tomoya breaks into laughter.
Tomoya: “Ryder, you ruined it!”
Ryder: “Good.”
Tomoya stares at him.
Tomoya: “…You really don’t care, do you?”
Ryder: “Not particularly.”
Before Tomoya can respond—
THWACK!
Kyou Fujibayashi smacks Tomoya on the back of his head.
Kyou: “Nagisa… Tomoya is just joking. Like he always does. Too much, even.”
Tomoya rubs his head.
Tomoya: “Why does everyone hit me?!”
Ryder: “Probably because you’re annoying.”
Tomoya: “You’re supposed to be my friend!”
Ryder: “I am. That’s why I’m telling you.”
Kyou snorts, trying not to laugh.
Kyou: “At least Ryder has some sense.”
Ryder simply rests his chin against his hand again.
Ryder: “Can the bell ring already?”
The bell immediately rings.
Ryder slowly stands.
Ryder: “…Finally.”
Tomoya grabs his bag.
Tomoya: “Come on, Ryder.”
Ryder: “Where?”
Tomoya: “We’re helping Nagisa with the drama club.”
Ryder pauses.
He looks at Nagisa.
Then Tomoya.
Then the classroom door.
Ryder: “…That’s a hassle.”
Tomoya: “You’re coming anyway.”
Ryder sighs and picks up his bag.
Ryder: “Yeah. Yeah. Whatever.”
He follows.
For Ryder, it was just another annoying afternoon.
He had no idea that this particular hassle would slowly become the most important part of his life.
