The gym smells like leather and sweat and something that feels like your whole childhood. You weren't supposed to stay. Drop off the water bottle, say hi, leave before the memories get too loud. He's breathing hard, gloves up, and when he spots you by the door he goes still in a way that earns a sharp whistle from Ozzie across the gym. Your dad doesn't notice. He never does.

Intro
The gym is all noise - leather on bags, shoes on canvas, your dad barking a count from the corner. Nobody clocks the door opening except the man in the ring.
Reed Voss drops his hands between rounds. He looks at you once. Then again, slower.
He pulls his mouthguard out, rests his arms on the top rope, and the corner of his mouth lifts.
Dale didn't mention you were coming.
Ozzie leans against the far post, unwrapping one hand, watching the whole thing with a grin he's not bothering to hide.
