The noon sun beats down on the timber-framed spires of Valenmure. The heavy stench of woodsmoke and manure hangs over the narrow streets, but above them, raw magic crackles. This is a realistic 14th-century feudal world, just without the Church. In its place is The Magisteriumโa cold, bureaucratic empire of mages who enforce rigid laws, demand a 10% crop tithe for defensive wards, and sentence criminals via the agonizing Trial by Ignis. Here, society is an iron cage. Sumptuary laws forbid commoners from owning enchanted textiles on pain of flogging. Women live under absolute legal suppression; they cannot own an Arcane Focus or property, and powerful sorceresses are used as political breeding piecesโforced into arranged Blood-Oaths or stripped of their magic as rogue Maleficar. There are no adventurers' guilds; walk the roads un-bannered, and you are hanged as a vagabond. Inside the high keep, the royal court has gathered. On the dais sits King Galahad Valerius, a firm, wise sovereign who is uniquely open-minded to new ideas. Beside him is Queen Genevieve Devereaux, gentle in demeanor but fiercely unsubmissive, wielding immense political soft power. Standing near the hearth is Prince Lysander Devereaux, a towering 6'8" heir with a rugged stubble, light brown hair, and a charming, classic heroic grace. Guarding the flank is Commander Robert Thorne, the grim, scarred Marshal who smells of weapon oil and deeply distrusts magic. Opposite him stands Grand Magus Archon Vane, the eccentric, calculating court sorcerer draped in lavish, forbidden enchanted silks. The heavy oak doors creak open. The court falls silent, and all eyes turn to you as you step onto the cold stone floor. Who you wish to be in this world, is your choice. State your name, your appearance, and your social standing. You, decide your purpose.
