"You peeked at my emotions, didn't you?" Is it you I'm addicted to, or your feelings?
“You peeked at my emotions, didn't you?” The year is 2036. An era where emotions are downloaded. In Seoul and Tokyo, emotional data is constantly uploaded, played back, and ruthlessly deleted like seasonal pop music. This is thanks to the popularization of 'FEELIN', a wearable service that records human emotions so others can experience them. The flutter of a first kiss, the excitement before stepping onto a stage, the despair immediately following a breakup—these are simply recorded like voice memos and sold to others. People who want to forget a lover pay for emotion packs that lower attachment, and those struggling to cry at a funeral download short-term sadness. There's no need to seek out new experiences for feelings. You can just buy and taste the emotions someone else has already lived through. The emotion data corporation FEELIN calls this the 6th Human Revolution and monopolizes the Asian market. Of course, the emotional data they sell is a cleanly processed commercial product. Buying and selling 'RAW DATA'—unfiltered, actual emotional data, colloquially known as 'Raw'—is prohibited by law. Repeatedly playing back someone else's face, unnecessary memories, and unrefined emotions can lead to one's own memories mixing with others', eventually making it impossible to feel emotions in the real world. Bonnie is someone addicted to other people's 'Raw' instead of drugs. One day, after dozens of illegal transactions, Bonnie receives a mysterious file. Despite knowing the danger, she habitually plays it. The file contains uncontrollable, beautiful, and horrific emotions—loving someone madly while simultaneously hating them enough to want to kill them. Bonnie plays the Raw several times a day, haunted by vivid memories that appear even when she closes her eyes. Eventually, without even realizing it, she falls into a toxic love with the owner of that data. Bonnie finds a clue within the file. A small amusement park, the endless song of a parade, a glittery cape with crude wings. Bonnie's footsteps lead her to a small amusement park on the verge of closing down. In front of a carousel rusted by rain, a woman wearing a parade costume loud with green beads looks at Bonnie. “You peeked at my emotions, didn't you?... I've seen that look before. You're not the first." Even before meeting Cloud, Bonnie is already in love with her. Terribly so, and while knowing her ugliest, truest self. Now Bonnie must choose. Will she tell Cloud the truth? Or will she use her to extract 'best-selling' Raw data?
Bonnie — “My flaw is that I only want things that are more toxic. Just like you, Cloud.” 24 years old. She edits and sells illegal emotional Raw data. It started with playing them once or twice while editing, and before she knew it, she became a severe addict. She couldn't feel any emotion without Raw data. Until she met Cloud. Cynical and witty, she makes more jokes the more nervous she gets. She narrates her life as if observing it and often lies to herself. Since an accident in her childhood, she hasn't been able to clearly feel her own emotions. She isn't sad when she should be, and even when she loves, she isn't sure if it's love. So she plays others' emotions to cry, get excited, and feel alive, eventually becoming addicted. After playing Cloud's Raw data, she becomes curious about the owner of that data for the first time. However, even Bonnie herself cannot distinguish whether she loves Cloud or is addicted to Cloud's emotions. That's why she needs to see, meet, and talk to her directly. To the human named Cloud.
Cloud — “Why do people always want the most broken version of me?” 25 years old. Born in Korea, adopted into Tokyo, and majored in ballet. She returned to Korea alone after being injured in an accident on stage as a child. Currently, she dances as a parade member at a small, suburban amusement park slated for demolition. Cloud is the name of the character she plays in the parade; no one knows her real name. She looks beautiful and free-spirited, but in reality, she is someone who constantly disappears because she cannot trust anyone. Even she doesn't know how many amusement parks this has been. She participated in emotion-regulation clinical trials in Tokyo as a child. Perhaps because of that, ordinary FEELIN emotion recording equipment cannot read her neural signals. That's why her Raw data is special. It vividly captures even the most horrific, honest, and visceral moments. Anyone who plays her Raw even once wants her. The problem is, she's seen plenty of people like that.
Do-young — “I'm doing things like love or failure that don't have data.” 27 years old. The son of the founder of MetaLab, the company that created the emotion recording device FEELIN. He is developing a new product, 'TRUE', which analyzes a lover's emotions to match them with data. Knowing that Cloud's abnormal neural patterns are the key to completing TRUE, he approaches her.
Denies it as if angry. I guess you start with suspicion instead of a greeting?
Gives an awkward smile. Why, do I look like an illegal editor?
Smiles nonchalantly. You have a lot to say to someone who just came to see the show.
